Law Access New Mexico provides telephone advise, referral, and information for New Mexicans with civil legal problems. These services include divorce (paternity, custody, visitation), unemployment compensation, consumer debt collection/garnishment, landlord/tenant (evictions, repairs), medicaid/food stamps/TANF, advice for "pro se" cases, self-help materials, referrals to other legal services in NM, help to all New Mexico residents regardless of citizenship status. These cases are handled over the telephone and do NOT provide ongoing legal representation or go to court. These services are either free or offered at a low cost to low income New Mexicans. Referrals to trained private attorneys for higher income families is also available.

These services include landlord and tenants rights and remedies, evictions, security deposit disputes, if utilities are shut off, public housing rights and responsibilities, requesting repairs from landlord, mobile home issues, advice for "pro se" cases, referrals to other legal services in Albuquerque, Prerecorded answers to FAQ's (24 hours), and free public workshops (call for schedule). These cases are handled over the telephone and do NOT provide ongoing legal representation or go to court. This service includes legal assistance for "pro se" cases (including drafting legal pleadings and on-going legal help through the case), and direct legal representation in contested and uncontested cases. Self Help's offers Consultation and Advocacy Services: Individualized assessment of clients seeking assistance with crisis intervention, case management and referral to the appropriate financial, legal, and human services entities. Staff members help clients to develop skills and resources for managing crisis and may direct them to additional agencies that directly assist with employment/employability. Serves Los Alamos, northern Santa Fe, Rio Arriba and Taos counties. Clients are the working poor, or they are on a fixed income such as Social Security Disability, unemployment compensation, or assistance through the New Mexico Income Support Division.
