LA Cares food bank distributes to the residents of Los Alamos Count at no cost. The food serves to help stretch limited budgets and includes non-perishable items, fresh produce and baked goods.
Distribution takes place on the 2nd Friday of the month and also on the Thursday evening before the second Friday. It takes place at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church (2390 North Road). Thursday evening the distribution if from 7pm to 8pm and on Friday from 10:30am 12:00pm.
To register call 661-8015 by Sunday before the distribution. On the answering machine leave your name, address, phone number, number of people in your family, special food needs and any allergies, if you need cat or dog food, whether you need diapers, wipes, formula, or pull ups. When you come to pick up your box of food you may visit the tables which has some fresh produce, the specials table and the bread and cake table.

Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) - WIC is a supplemental Food and Nutrition Education Program for Women, Infants, and Children, including: supplemental nutritious food, nutrition education, breast feeding education and support and referral to other health and social service programs. Please call the number above for more information. Services are provided to women who are pregnant, breast feeding, or children up to their 5th birthday. Recipients must reside in New Mexico, fall within income guidelines, and be at risk for medical or nutritional problems.

The Los Alamos Senior Center offers the following services to citizens of Los Alamos County who are 50 years of age or older:
Congregate Meals: Serviced Monday - Friday at 12:00pm at the Betty Ehart Senior Center. Meal menus are published every Thursday in the Monitor. Reservations are requested. The suggested donation for age 60 and over is $4.00. Younger members and guests are charged $7.50. Please call 662-8922 to make a reservation. All home delivered meals should also be made to this number.
Services for Low Income Seniors: Community donations provide transportation and home delivery meals, without charge to seniors who are in financial need. Seniors are sometimes referred for low income assistance including housing assistance, SSI, food stamps, Medicare, Medicaid, and Qualified Medicare Beneficiaries. Seniors in need of financial assistance with rent or utilities are referred to H.E.L.P. Agency in Espanola.
